Role Introduction
Reports to: Platform Ops Manager
The FinOps Analyst is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of financial operations (FinOps) practices to optimize cloud cost management. This role involves monitoring cloud usage and costs, providing actionable insights, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to promote cost awareness and accountability.
The FinOps Analyst also identifies significant fluctuations in cloud spending, facilitates issue resolution, and assists in re-forecasting budgets to ensure efficient and effective cloud financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement of FinOps methodologies, frameworks, processes, and toolsets.
- Support the implementation of best practices for cloud financial management and cost optimization.
- Monitor cloud usage and costs, providing regular reports and insights to FinOps Leads and other stakeholders.
- Identify significant fluctuations in cloud cost spending and facilitate cloud account owners to address potential issues or re-forecast spending based on organic growth or normal patterns.
- Assist in the execution of the FinOps Quality Management Framework, focusing on cost transparency and optimization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote cost awareness and accountability for cloud spending.
- Analyze vendor pricing models and billing to identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend strategies.
- Utilize cost management tools to detect over/under-provisioning of resources and provide actionable insights.
- Support the development and prioritization of cost improvement plans based on KPIs and ROI.
- Assist in the preparation of IT cloud spending and budget forecasts, collaborating with cost owners and key stakeholders.
- Stay updated on the latest trends in cloud cost management and FinOps practices, sharing relevant information with the team.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree or higher in an Information Technology or Computer Science/Engineering related field.
- Technical degree holder with minimum of 6 years IT experience, at least 3 years of IT related experience.
- Experience with IT Planning, Budgeting, Financing organizational process and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) comparison.
- Experience with building and maintaining relationships at a senior level and have an ability to influence at all levels.
- Knowledge principles of Agile or Lean methodology.
- Knowledge in IT and Cloud Operations.
- Knowledge in a broad spectrum of cloud workload and pricing model in Cloud (Azure/AWS), Container Platform as well as software product licensing model.
- Solid experience to costing, budgeting, billing, infrastructure resources reporting and management tools.
- Ability to work well with others and as part of a technical team
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills, leveraging both logic and creativity; strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills; ability to identify patterns and generate informed ideas.
- Focus on the business and end user’s needs; ability to set expectations and understand end user behavior.
- Ability and willingness to proactively accept, and drive, change to accomplish positive outcomes.
- Ability to understand strategy and align tactical and strategic work in a well-balanced way.
- Ability to multitasking and manage various projects in a cross-functional environment.
- Must have knowledge of how to lever technology to reduce operational costs and delivery business innovation in a fast moving and dynamic industry sector.
- Passion for bleeding edge technologies. Experience sourcing various solutions for FinOps adoption and services across multiple disciplines.
- Good verbal and written communication skills with experienced in presenting solutions to group of audience.
DESIRED SKILLS
- Knowledge with different pricing and subscription schemes of cloud service providers and vendors.

- Cloud Provisioning and Operations (e.g AWS, Azure)
- Cloud Cost and Budgeting Tools (e.g Cost Explorer, Trusted Advisor, Budgets, Cost Analysis, QuickSight, Athena)
