Job Description:

JOB PROFILE – Aerospace Design Engineer

Our new intermediate Aerospace Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting all Engineering requirements for the Harbour Air Group of companies including but not limited to the design, integration, and manufacturing of modifications to the Harbour Air Group fleet of aircraft and our 3rd party customers. The current focus of the Engineering Department at Harbour Air is integrating new and novel technologies such as electric propulsion. This is the opportunity to participate in the electrification of flight in a comprehensive role.

The ideal candidate would have a positive attitude and work well within a team, communicating with and supporting all members. They would thrive in an evolving environment and have extremely well developed critical/analytical thinking skills. A strong understanding of the regulatory world in which aviation exists is necessary to excel, however electrification of flight is a new concept, and the regulations/requirements are still developing. The ability to learn and adapt quickly is a must!

WORK HOURS: 40 hrs per week, Monday to Friday

LOCATION: YVR – South Terminal 100 onsite

TERM: Full Time Employee

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Innovate technical solutions for the installation of propulsion and related systems in civil aviation.
  • Interpret aviation regulations to develop aircraft design and certification requirements.
  • Lead technical discussions in the planning of electrical, mechanical, or structural modifications of aircraft.
  • Design aircraft architecture and detailed parts/components for electrical (HVDC and LVDC), mechanical, and/or structural systems.
  • Source components for HVDC and LVDC system design, that satisfy airworthiness and design requirements.
  • Prepare 3D models, 2D drawings, certification, and manufacturing drawings, as required.
  • Coordinate with mechanics and technicians to design and support new installations.
  • Develop complete data and certification packages to obtain design approvals from Transport Canada. This includes all compliance plans, substantiation reports, test plans and reports, as well as drawings and manufacturing, maintenance, and operational instructions.
  • Work with our customers (both internal and external) to ensure the project budget and timelines are met.
  • Other activities as directed by the Engineering & Quality Manager.

Qualifications/Assets

  • (Required) Clear and proven commitment to safety (for yourself and others) in line with our “Safety First” Value.
  • (Required) Versatile, with strong critical and analytical thinking skills.
  • (Required) Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • (Required) Bachelor Degree in Engineering. A relevant engineering background/experience combination will also be considered.
  • (Preferred) 5 years experience with integration of modifications onto Part 23 or Part 27 aircraft, particularly powerplant integration projects.
  • (Asset) Experience with aviation regulations and aircraft certification programs (Part 23 preferred).
  • (Asset) Experience with MIL, RTCA, SAE, and ASTM standards.
  • (Asset) HVDC system design, and/or lithium-ion battery systems.
  • (Asset) Experience with aircraft electrical systems and/or powerplant installations.
  • (Asset) Proficiency with Autodesk CAD and simulation software, or similar.
