Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking an Entry Level System Safety and Mission Assurance Systems Engineers to join its Chief Aerospace Safety Office (CASO) System Safety and Mission Assurance team out of Oklahoma City, OK focused on support of the Mobility, Surveillance & Bombers (MS&B) business unit.  MS&B OKC has a strong and growing portfolio of legendary US and international aircraft such as Air Force One (VC-25A), E-4B, C-32, C-40, B-1, B-2, B-52, E-3 AWACS, E-7 AEW&C, KC-135, KC-10, with more platforms coming.

The Systems Safety and Mission Assurance team:

  • Performs the Systems Safety effort centered around either MIL-STD-882E or ARP4761 for each of the MS&B products including analysis and oversight for basic aircraft functions, as well as owning the design safety activities for the aircraft’s mission systems
  • Facilitates Independent Reviews for all the systems engineering gated reviews (i.e. SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, etc)
  • Supports risk and safety evaluation escalation as necessary through the application of Safety Review Boards

As the recognized experts in System Safety and Mission Assurance, we are often sourced to support programs across the enterprise in Seattle, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Mesa, Southern California, and Huntsville Alabama, for platforms such as P-8, KC-46, F-15, F-18, vertical lift, and space systems, and we are looking for people with the drive to grow. This role features very high visibility short-term projects for Sr. and Executive leadership for those that want to take advantage.  This is an interesting and exciting opportunity to work with an experienced team of leaders and professionals at a quickly growing site.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Implement Systems Safety analysis activities
  • Identify and mitigate all potential and existing hazards or vulnerabilities, becoming an expert in aircraft system functions, failure conditions, and hazard mitigations
  • Collaborate with Engineering Design Teams while decomposing, analyzing, and learning aircraft systems and subsystems, down to their low-level hardware and software components, and their interactions
  • Ask tough questions, challenge conventional thinking, and bring potential hazards to light for aircraft and crew
  • Assess Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with Engineering Teams to determine the safest and most cost-effective solutions to actual and potential hazards, optimizing system design and availability
  • Gather data from field, factory, and engineering, calculating probability and severity of possible outcomes and work with design teams to influence a safer more robust system
  • Collaborate with all levels of Engineering, Program Management, and Customers
  • Set requirements, and ensure the integrity of systems and components development
  • Support critical issues that impact the technical integrity of the program
  • Help the program ensure technical success by reviewing program progress and development from the big picture perspective
  • Conduct program Mission Assurance Independent Reviews (MAIRs/TIRs), Flight and Test Mission Assurance Readiness Reviews (F/TMARRs), Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activity, assess program health, and provide best-practice guidance to assure program success
  • Chair, coordinate, and help staff Technical Independent Reviews / Non-Advocate Reviews for program milestones (i.e. (ESGP) Enterprise Standard Gated Process) to assure program success

The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Confidential Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Pilot’s license or actively working towards your pilot’s license
  • Experience employed as an Intern or in any other capacity with any Aerospace company
  • 1 or more years of aerospace related experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly processes and procedures, or experience during a project at school or during an internship
  • Experience in MIL-STD-882E and/or ARP4761 System Safety projects, analysis, reports, and processes

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as spanet and business considerations. 

  • Summary pay range for Entry level (Level 1): $62,900 - $85,100
