Job Description:

A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role: Functional Lead - HCM Implementation Release 2

British Airways is on an exciting journey to reshape how we support and serve our people. Through one of the most ambitious People led transformation programmes in our history, we are reimagining HR services and elevating the colleague experience across the organisation. Enabled by Oracle Fusion HCM, the programme is already well underway, with Phase One in delivery and the organisation now preparing for the next phase, building on the foundations being established! Are you the right person to bring this to delivery with a sense of purpose and take your team on a journey toward success?

We are now looking to bring experienced HR professionals into the programme as we prepare for Release Two.

This is a unique opportunity to play a hands on role in shaping the next wave of the transformation, covering Learning, Talent and Performance, the systemisation of Employee Relations case management, Strategic Workforce Planning, and a targeted pilot of staff scheduling.

What you’ll do:

As an Oracle HCM Cloud Functional Lead, you will join a collaborative, high performing transformation team and play a key role in shaping the future of HR at British Airways. Bringing a deep understanding of how HR operates in a large, complex and regulated organisation, you will work closely with HR leaders, Global Process Owners (GPOs) and delivery partners to turn strategic intent into practical, scalable solutions that make a real difference for colleagues across the business.

You will help shape how we attract, develop, support and manage our people, ensuring HR experiences are intuitive, effective and aligned to our values and strategic goals.

Specifically, you will:

  • Take end to end accountability for the design, build, test and deployment of Oracle Fusion HCM solutions within your assigned functional scope.
  • Partner with Global Process Owners and subject matter experts to translate agreed process decisions into robust system designs that meet both strategic and operational needs.
  • Lead functional design and configuration activities with the System Integrator and our technical teams including design workshops, gap analysis and solution design
  • Participate and oversee functional and user acceptance testing, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose and ready for adoption.
  • Support the development of training approaches and materials, helping to drive confidence, capability and smooth transition to new ways of working.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications, collaborating on data migration, integrations, security and reporting to ensure end to end alignment.
  • Produce and maintain high quality documentation, including process flows, design artefacts, test plans and user guides.
  • Actively manage delivery across your scope, including dependencies, risks and issues, providing clear status updates and proactive mitigation.
  • Stay current with the Oracle Cloud HCM roadmap and quarterly releases, advising on the adoption of new features and driving continuous improvement in HR processes and system capability.

This role offers the opportunity to take real ownership, influence design decisions and play an active part in a transformation that will shape the colleague experience at British Airways for years to come.

What you’ll bring to the programme:

  • Hands on experience with Oracle HCM Cloud (or similar enterprise HR systems), including configuration, design or operational use, is required.
  • Strong understanding of HR operations, processes and business priorities, with experience relevant to the Release Two scope (Learning, Talent and Performance, Employee Relations, Workforce Planning or adjacent HR domains).
  • Strong understanding of business, processes and best practices, in scope for release 2 with relevant experience in HR
  • Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into effective system specifications and solutions.
  • Demonstrated success in operating within complex projects and driving change in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Skilled in leading without direct authority, using strong collaboration and influencing techniques.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
